About Danny
Danny
Guerrero has been a part of the Los Angeles music scene for many years.
He is well-known for his musical diversity. He is a musical director,
conductor, accompanist, soloist, arranger, composer, and motion picture
musical consultant. He recently conducted a production of the opera
Andrea Chenier and has worked as piano conductor in the main rooms
of Vegas, in jazz trios, accompanied opera and Broadway-style singers,
performed Liberace-style solo piano concerts, composed film scores and
arranged music for TV shows.
A
native of Denver, Colorado,
Danny began his concert career at age 11, playing with a symphony orchestra.
He studied with the renowned woman conductor, Dr. Antonia Brico, about
whom Judy Collins made a documentary. Judy
Collins and Danny played a duet in the Mozart
Double Concerto in C with the Denver Businessmans Symphony when
both were 16. In her autobiography, Trust Your Heart, Judy describes that
night: Danno was a sixteen-year-old student of Dr. Bricos
whom I had only seen at master classes. He was a very advanced pianist.
Our rehearsals were exciting, both of us sitting behind the Steinways
at the studio, Dannos face shining at mine as we nodded to each
for entrances and endings and burst into smiles at the end of our rehearsals.
Danny attended the Aspen Festival of Music and studied under Darius Milhaud.
After achieving a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Arts Degree
in Music Composition at the University of Denver, Danny came to Los Angeles
and studied film scoring with David Raksin and Earle Hagen, and composition
with the legendary Spud Murphy. He then began his career as a piano conductor
in Vegas and locations all over the United States and Canada with such
artists as Charo, Mitzi Gaynor, Kathryn Grayson, Jim Nabors, Kay Starr
and John Gary. He also worked as assistant conductor at the Los Angeles
Civic Light Opera and the Shubert Theater. He has worked as a consultant
on movies featuring stars who cannot play the piano - his playing is featured
on the piano track of Corrina Corrina when Ray Liotta appears to be playing
the piano.
Danny
is a master of the art of improvisation which he uses to great effect
in his solo piano work. He is well known and appreciated for his accompanying
of singers and
can play in any style and in any key, transposing at sight. He has performed
in many restaurants throughout the city, at private parties, weddings,
funerals, and industrials. His musical expertise and delightful personality
are appreciated and applauded wherever he performs.
